Anxiety Panic Attacks
Have you experienced moments of overwhelming fear without any obvious reason?
Anxiety panic attacks are far more intense than depression, anxiety or stress episodes.
Panic attacks symptomps
The most common symptoms may include trembling, dyspnea (shortness of breath), heart palpitations, chest pain (or chest tightness), hot flashes, sweating, nausea, dizziness (or slight vertigo), light-headedness, hyperventilation.
These symptoms are interpreted with alarm in people prone to panic attacks. This results in increased anxiety, and forms a positive feedback loop.
This was also the case with my dad (he is 60 years old). After he had his gallbladder removed, his postoperative period was very difficult. He was in pain and he worried very much. Although all the tests and subsequent investigations have turned out well, he did not trust the doctors diagnosis that he had no other physical problem (besides his age related ones).
He sweated a lot and this made him anxious. He thought that either he had an undiscoverable disease, or the doctors knew and they wouldn't tell him because it was too serious. He isolated himself in the most distant and darkest room of the house and refused to communicate with others because he felt that everyone was lying to him and he could not trust anyone.
A few times he called my aunt in the middle of the night (his sister is a doctor) telling her all his symptoms and his gloomy thoughts. My aunt tried to reassure him, but she couldn't. She told us he had anxiety symptoms and panic attacks and that is was very important to have patience with my father, convince him to go outside and take a breath of fresh air.
Another important thing is to talk to someone who also suffered from depression or anxiety to see how you could help your loved ones. In our case, it was one of my uncles (my father's brother) who, several years ago, has had psychological treatment for his anxiety panic attacks.
Panic attacks causes
In my father's case it was quite clear what caused his anxiety, but causes of anxiety attacks can be different for others. From a very strong emotion, to work related stress or family tragedies accumulated over the years. Sometimes the answer is not obvious and you need psychological or psihiatric help.
Panic attacks treatment
In most cases, in the acute crisis phase, doctors recommend drug therapy. Because of possible adverse effects and because these drugs are addictive, long term use is not desirable. Instead you could choose a natural herbal treatment.
Replacement of synthetic drugs with herbs for depression and anxiety depends very much on the patient's condition evolution, because, generally, herbal remedies for depression or anxiety have a slower action.

My dad is not the most cheerful person when he is in pain. He gets anxious and even has panic attacks.
